First of all, I need some advice... a lot of times on Sunday evenings, like tonight, I find myself cleaning! I know that isn't the best time to clean and I have been trying to come up with a system so that I can clean more during the week. But, I find that during the week I get so busy with the everyday grind that I don't get a lot of cleaning done and so by the time Sunday comes around I feel the pressure to do it before another busy week starts!
I am just wondering how other people do their cleaning. I know this is lame and not a huge deal, but it is to me! Anyway, I like having routines or schedules so I have tried that before but I haven't kept with it. Example: Sweep and mop floors on Monday, clean bathrooms Tuesday, etc. etc. you get my point. Does anyone else do this? How do you guys get your house cleaning done? Any help would be much appreciated!
Second...I have had so many people tell me how they hate running and they don't know how they could do a marathon or half-marathon because they hate to run so bad. I honestly am not a huge fan of running either. I like it more now of course, but that's only because I've been doing it for a while and I see the benefits of it now. Also, I didn't exercise regularly before and having a goal is the ONLY thing that got me to do it. I listen to music while I run and that helps A LOT! For me it makes the time go by faster and makes it more enjoyable. I also have to say that in the beginning I didn't hardly run at all. I would alternate walking and running/jogging and I still do that. I can't run for very long without stopping to walk for a little break to catch my breath. I have heard of some people that can't run or they don't like to run and so they have walked the half-marathon and I think that's awesome! Just getting out there and exercising and getting the mileage in is the great thing!
Since running I haven't lost as much weight as I had hoped, but I'm in better shape and more toned so I feel a lot better about myself. I also think I am a stronger person on the inside because of setting and accomplishing a goal (and pushing myself to get out of bed and exercise!). I would also push myself while running and thinking that I have to keep going even when it is hard because that is when I am growing the most...not just physically but mentally. I remember Brent telling me a quote that he heard on his mission that says something like, "We grow the most when we are out of our comfort zone." Something to that effect...you get my point. I have heard that running is a lot MENTAL and I agree. I've also learned that if you think it is going to suck and you tell yourself that then it will! What you see is what you get!
I just had to post this because all of you who have said you hate running and wish you liked it could totally do it! It's all in your head! I know you can do it and I will support you 100%. I am a stronger happier person because of training for the half-marathons and I know you guys would be too! So get out there and start running/exercising! And if you live in Cache Valley I will totally exercise with you! Now what is your excuse?
Okay, now that I've given you guys a little pep talk I have to get to bed so that I can get up in the morning to do what I've told you all to do!

The cleaning usually gets done on Saturday for me while Ava is outside playing with Brig. I don't know about your little guy, but if Ava is in the house while I'm trying to put away all her toys she throws a fit and doesn't want me to put them away. If I clean during the week it's after Ava's asleep. I've heard of people doing the rountine cleaning but I just couldn't do it. I hate being tied to a schedule. Also (I know long comment) thanks for the pep talk. I want to start running with Brig and you confirmed what I suspected, that it is all about mental toughness. We'll see how it goes.
So cute Rand!!! I'm smiling as we speak..I love having a smile on my face, and this time it's all b/c of you! I completely agree 110% on the running, feeling better, mental, goals etc etc... I feel the exact same way and I am so thankful that you were and still are so willing to do this with me b/c it has helped so much to have someone else doing the same thing and having a run partna!! Now with the cleaning issue: As you know I broke down and have a lady come in once a week to do all the DEEP cleaning as in mopping, bathrooms, dusting, etc. but obviously there is still much needed cleaning to be had the other day's too..I have just tried to make sure I did at least 2 or 3 things a day that has to do with the household they are small and big. Example: sweeping, picking up toys, dishes, wiping down countertops, laundry, etc. Anyway I know that's not a lot of help but to me it's another mental thing if I have a goal inside of me to at least accomplish even 1 household cleaning task a day I am happy. And don't set too high of goals and don't get down on yourself if you can't accomplish it b/c that's when it goes downhill and if you are dissapointed about not getting it done then it just gets worse it's a visious cycle. So if you do it GREAT if you absolutely can't get it done just tell yourself it's okay I'll get it done tomorrow. Good Luck sweetie! Love you xoxoxo
You inspired me! I made a smaller goal than you- I am going to run a 10K (half of a half marathon). I agree the goal is half of it. I just ran 4 miles the other day and thought I would never do that had I not made this goal. I am NO runner, but when I go at my own pace it's very rewarding.
As far as your cleaining thing goes, I say it takes two! Dave cleans a TON, but to clean and oraganize once a week, I have to do it with his help. It would be one thing if I could just clean for an hour striaght, but you can't do that with kids! Good luck with that!
Tangi got me in a system when I first had Courtney and started going home which was similar to what you were saying of 'do this on monday' 'this on tuesday' and it worked really well for me, and it freed up the weekends so when Adam is home we don't have to do any cleaning. I love having the routine and it works for ME, for others it may not. Thanks for the pep talk on running, I agree it is mental, when I am running I know I could go farther, I just plain don't want to. I need to work on that!
Hey! What a fun post!
First, you may have inspired me to try running! You are so great! I wish I lived in Cache Valley so I could run with you- how fun!
Second, about the cleaning: I am a list freak. I always try to make a list on Sunday night of the things I need to do during the week, and I list EVERYTHING- even things like phone calls I need to make, and bigger, long-term goals like scrapbooking, or whatever, and of course all of the cleaning that needs to get done. Then every day I look at my list and decide which of those things need to be done first, or on certain days and which things I want to do that day. This way I don't feel too tied down, or have to do it all in one day. I just think it helps a lot to be able to check off a list, and also it helps to get a little bit done every day so that it doesn't all pile up for one day. Then I can usually have Sunday be my lazy day because I've already done everything on my list! Fun! Anyway, Sorry for the novel! I hope you get a good system figured out for you- good luck!
i really needed to read this post expecially on running. i've been trying to lose that last baby weight and can't find myself able to get motivated. i can see how making a goal would help tons because then i'd have a reason to make myself exercise and i know i enjoy it once i get going and see the results. as tawni said, i do a little everyday. one load of laundry (folded too) a day and a couple small chores (or one if its big like bathrooms) and then when coby gets home for the weekend we dont' have to spend it cleaning. my help also comes from denver, he loves to use his vaccum and broom and dust with me, so we do it together.
Thank you, thank you for your pep-talk! So, guess what I did today...Yep...I signed up for the St. George Marathon!!! Totally freaked out of my mind, but really excited at the same time! I agree that it takes a lot happy thoughts...we'll see how it goes!
i wish i had some good advice for you on cleaning. maybe if i were better organized, my house would be cleaner. :) but i usually end up cleaning on mondays. everything goes crazy with the whole family home on the weekend. but with samuel, it's hit or miss how much i get done and when, so when i notice something is dirty, i clean it. i've found that doing little things when i have a couple of minutes helps: like cleaning the countertop, even though i don't have time to do the whole bathroom.
and thanks for the pep talk on running. maybe i'll believe you and give it a try sometime. :)
